FeCr 2 O 4

[Chemical composition] iron ore constituents chromium complex, widespread Cr 2 O 3, Al 2 O 3, Fe 2 O 3, FeO, MgO-based interstitial five basic components of the same image replacement.

[Form] It is usually a granular or massive aggregate (Fig. Y-26). The single crystal is octahedral {111}, but it is rare.

Physical Properties] The dark brown to black iron; brown streaks; semi-metallic luster; opaque. No clerk. The hardness is 5.5 to 6.5; the relative density is 4.3 to 4.8. Crisp. It has weak magnetic properties and has high magnetic content.

[genesis and occurrence] is a product of magmatism, often produced in ultrabasic rocks, and symbiotic with olivine, which can be used as a standard mineral indicating superbasic environment. Also found in sand mines. The main producing areas of chromite ore in China are distributed in Tibet and Xinjiang.

[Identification features] are characterized by dark brown or black, streak brown, weak magnetic, high hardness and produced in ultrabasic rocks.

[Main use] The only mineral raw material for extracting chromium. Iron-rich inferior ore is available for advanced refractory materials.
