Xiamen Port ushered in the peak of fertilizer imports

Right now is the spring season, fertilizer has become a hot commodity. On February 25th, with nearly 1,000 tons of imported potassium chloride fertilizer transported from Xiamen Port, Xiamen Port has ushered in the peak of fertilizer imports. The reporter learned from Xiamen Customs that in January of this year, Xiamen Customs had put 34,000 tons of imported fertilizer, worth US$8.122 million, which was an increase of 17 times and 18 times year-on-year respectively.

It is understood that at present, potassium fertilizer is relatively scarce in the domestic market. Taking Qinghai, the province with the most abundant potassium salt production, as an example, the output of potash for a year is estimated at more than 1.5 million tons, while the national demand is at least 8 million tons. Companies mainly fill gaps through imports. Due to the depth of draught in the port and the corresponding facilities in the terminal, Xiamen Port has become the main port for the import of chemical fertilizers in Fujian Province. Since February 20th, Xiamen Port Haicang International Container Terminals has welcomed a total of 1,513 tons of potash, including potassium sulphate and potassium chloride, imported from Germany.

Xiamen Customs carried out pre-release, allowing companies to pick up the goods first. After the certificate of the commodity inspection comes out, the customs will re-submit the release procedures based on the actual weight, ensuring that fertilizers arriving at Hong Kong can be shipped on the same day.
